Job Title:  Maintenance Technician

Location: Port of South Whidbey (district) – South Whidbey Island, Washington

Pay Rate: $24.00 per hour

Employment Type: Full-time

Position Overview

The Port of South Whidbey is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of repair, maintenance, and improvement tasks across port facilities and properties. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in general maintenance and repair work and is comfortable working in a marine and outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repair of buildings, docks, floats, restrooms, utilities, and other port facilities.
  • Conduct inspections to identify repair needs and ensure the safe operation of all infrastructure and equipment.
  • Operate tools, vehicles, and machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with construction, installation, and improvement projects as directed.
  • Perform landscaping, groundskeeping, and debris removal to maintain clean and safe public areas.
  • Support marine infrastructure maintenance, including pilings, floats, and gangways.
  • Assist with heavy equipment operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in general maintenance, repair, or related work.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in construction or facility maintenance.
  • Knowledge of diesel engine repair and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with marine infrastructure and waterfront operations.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery or equipment.
  • Landscaping or grounds maintenance experience.

Work Environment

This position involves both indoor and outdoor work, often in a marine environment. Tasks may require lifting, bending, climbing, and operating machinery.
